Goodbye Sweet Summer

Mum said tomorrow is the official first day of Autumn. We decided we'd better savor every drop of sun today. It was suppose to rain today but we got lucky!
Here is Ozzy looking like a scruffy boy. His girl insists that he grow his hair out so she can put girly ribbons in it. Mum told him not to worry, she will sneak him off to the groomers.
I am trying to relax but between Mum snapping pictures and Ozzy noising around it's not easy.

Miss Nugget is keeping an eye on the new dog who moved in behind us. We are now officially surrounded.
Ahhhh..... Sweet Sun shinning down on my favorite outdoor napping spot. Life is good! :-)

Can You See Me?

Well as you know, we have not been around for over a month! Mum caught a bad case of lazy summer-itis; as a result we took a hiatus. Mum discovered and recommends the following activities for the relief of stress.

1) Hunt for four leaf clovers

2) Visit out of state family

3) On long road trips listen to books on tape

4) Turn off your cell phone

5) Walk and let your mind wander

6) Meditate

7) Read; Mum loves quirky self help books and recommends the Luck Factor – The Four Essential Principals by Dr. Richard Wiseman
For fun the Hobbit – We are still reading this one. Mum has discovered that she is a Hobbit minus the hairy feet.

8) Tell your dog your worries, we can’t fix any of them but you may get some good kisses!

9) Have a cup of tea, with milk and sugar of course

10) Go gold panning in northern Montana. You most likely will not find any gold, but a chair carefully placed in the stream with a bolder foot rest makes an excellent napping spot.

11) Doodle

12) Go to a make up counter and ask for a make over.

13) Get a massage

14) Buy candles

15) Shop at a farmer’s market-buy the great in season fruit.

16) Walk your dog or dogs

17) Take a bubble bath

18) Listen

19) Notice the beauty all around – How can you miss if you live with a pup!

20) Count your blessings

Memorial Day - Monday May 28th

Memorial Day in the U.S. is traditionally the day Americans honor the men and women serving in the armed forces, past and present. We would like to recognize our canine friends who provide faithful service in the U.S. military and law enforcement.

Mum helped me find a very nice quote, below.

“Near this spot are deposited the remains of one who possessed Beauty without Vanity, Strength without Insolence, Courage without Ferocity, and all the Virtues of Man without his Vices.”

John Cam Hobhouse (1786 1869)
This Tribute was written in the Memory of Boatswain Lord Byron’s Newfoundland.

Nugget Speaks Out

I am very upset! I would use stronger words, however this is a family site. Many of you may already have heard the news of tainted pet food in North America. There is a massive recall covering as many as 51 dog food brands and 40 brands of cat food, covering 60 million cans and pouches of possibly tainted food. A federal investigation is focusing on wheat gluten as the likely source, and testing continues. This is where I have a problem. In testing, the manufacturer fed its product to 40-50 dogs and cats resulting in 7 deaths. What? How would you hoomans like it if the tables were turned. Would a bread manufacture line up 50 hoomans to eat toast if there was a possible wheat gluten problem in your food? I don't think so!

For more information visit: www.menufoods.com/recall The company designated two phone numbers for pet owners to call: 866-463-6738 & 866-895-2708.
The Seattle PI article: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/308221_petfoodrecall20.html

Fortunately my food is not included in the listed brands. However just to be on the safe side I have requested that Mum feed me peanut butter only for a couple of months.

Yum! Peanut Buttery goodness. I snuck this jar from Dad, and Mum thought he gave it to me. HeHeHe... Ozzy and Stewy were outside sunning. Mum says this is why I am not loosing weight.

Quotes

"The greatness of a Nation and it's moral progress can be judged by the way it's animals are treated." - Mahatma Gandhi

Both Nuggy and Stewy agree. We watched Terri Irwin's interview with Barbara Walters this evening. Our hearts go out to Terri and the kids. In her interview Terri said that we should all pick up where Steve left off and do our part for wildlife. If we all did, the world would be a better place. - Amen.

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie?

This is where Nugget is allowed to sleep; on a blanket covered chair.
Below: When I am not home, or out of the room, this is where I often find both Nugget and Stewy. Stewy found the pillows especially nice. Dogs, depending on the breed will sleep about half there life. I can tell you mine are sure to find the softest coziest spots. I am bad, I let Nugget get on the bed with me at night. The down side of this isn't the room she takes up, but that her snoring is loud!

Dog Names?

Watching people trying to round up their doggy companions at the off-leash dog park we visit regularly, I noticed something funny.
1) Dogs know when it's time to go home and do stall/avoid tactics employed by many children. 2) Dog names more often than not are people names; Heidi, Muriel, Sophie, Jake, and I even heard a dog with initials for a name.
Miss Nugget was actually named Chicken Nugget by a five year old in the family we adopted her from. (They didn't know what they were in for with a dog). I wanted to re-name her Olive, but my kids over-ruled me. They liked the name Nugget and also thought a name change would be too confusing for her since she was almost 2 years.

Ahhh.... Summer Afternoon

"Properly trained, a man can be dog's best friend." --Corey Ford, American writer
I found myself in Seattle today running an errand. It has been a long time since I've visited Green Lake. If I had to live in the city again, Seattle's Green Lake neighborhood would be at the top of the list! I sometimes miss the city, however, not the traffic.

Bon Bon

Meet Bon Bon, E brought him over for a visit. Funny thing; Stewy our 7 year old Beagle, the one who acts so tough, growls and barks like he means business, IS apparently frightened of small dogs! Every time Bon Bon walked over to introduce himself, Stewy hid under my chair or under the computer desk. He doesn't act this way with larger dogs, or at the dog park? Maybe it was Bon Bon's scent, he smelled nice. My dogs prefer 'earth' scents.
